Emails are not arriving

What to check when invitations or notifications do not arrive.

Updated Oct 20, 2026 · 1 min read

Check first

  1. The spam or junk folder, and any quarantine your institution uses.
  2. That the email address in the account is correct.

Journal emails (submissions, reviews, decisions)

These go out only through the journal's own mail service. Open Journal settings → Email sending: the box at the top says whether journal emails are on.

  • If they are off, connect the journal's mail server. Until then nothing is emailed, but everyone still sees updates in their dashboard.
  • If they are on, use Send a test email: enter an address and click Send test. If it fails, the message says why — usually a wrong password, port or security setting.
  • Ask your mail provider to check SPF and DKIM for your domain. Without them, emails often land in spam.

Addresses we stop emailing

If an address bounced, or its owner marked an email as spam, JournalEnv stops emailing it — both our own emails (sign-in links, codes, billing) and journal emails — to protect delivery for everyone. Open a support request and we will check it and turn it back on once the mailbox works.

Still not working?

Open a support request with the topic Something is not working and tell us the recipient's address and the time it should have arrived.
