How JournalEnv works: preview and going live
Every journal starts as a private preview and goes live on its own domain.
Updated Oct 20, 2026 · 1 min read
JournalEnv runs the technology behind your journal. Your journal is always published under its own name, on its own domain — JournalEnv never publishes journals under its name.
Preview
Every new journal starts as a preview:
- You can set up everything — details, editorial board, policies, sections, theme — and test submissions and reviews from start to finish.
- The journal site shows a yellow Preview bar and is hidden from Google and indexes.
- There is no sitemap, no OAI-PMH feed and no DOI registration yet.
Going live
A journal goes live when both are true:
- It has a paid plan that includes publishing — Essential or higher (the free trial and Starter are previews).
- Its own domain is connected and verified, e.g.
www.your-journal.orgorjournal.university.edu.
Once live, the journal is public, visible to search engines, harvested through OAI-PMH, and can register DOIs.
Where to see the status
Journal settings → Setup checklist shows Live or Preview at the top, with exactly what is still missing. Your dashboard shows the same for each journal.
